Rain forests affect greenhouse gases positively and in Africa, we have patches of rain forest here and there, what could be done to preserve the forest and are there any incentives?

The fossil fuel system and the industrial food system that plunder our oceans and forests are the two major systems responsible for Lion's share of global emissions and are the key drivers of forest and ocean destruction.

These companies that contribute to the climate crisis and the destruction of nature must cease to exist or change their ways of trading.

People from all walks of life must start to demand changes that we wish to see for our planet. Holding governments and companies to account for the crucial decisions and actions made.

There is a call from world leaders in Glasgow to reduce emissions by 45% by 2030 is still in line with what we need to do to keep 1.5C alive. But countries need to specify how much and by when they will cut emissions, as current action is way off course. And a focus on a just transition will be essential.

The UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) — negotiations over biodiversity targets and new international vision and roadmap for nature restoration and conservation — will also happen in 2022. Protected areas of forest and oceans are essential if we are to tackle climate change. This is a unique moment to influence the future.

The next climate summit will reconvene in Egypt, where climate justice activists will be raising awareness about the severe climate impacts facing Africa. Countries will need to come back with much stronger targets and clearly defined pathways to stay on track for 1.5C, We must continue to mobilise and urgently create irrepressible pressure that finally ends the era of all fossil fuels.

STRATEGIC PRIORITIES FOR 2022

To prevent runaway climate change and ecological breakdown, we need to radically change how the world has been operating. We must shift power away from the industries and interests causing the crisis., and towards the green jobs and solutions, our planet urgently needs.

Greenpeace will use its unique set of tools and tactics -

Accelerate a just transition away from fossil fuels

Prevent further destruction of our forests

Protect at least 30% of our oceans by 2030

Greenpeace will focus on two key areas in 2022 : ending North Sea oil and gas and aligning the finance sector to the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Expose the problem: through strong media and investigative work, we’ll show how the government’s plan to continue drilling for oil n the North Sea is incompatible with its net-zero commitments. Exposure of the activities of the oil industry in undermining political action on climate change.

You can do your bit, write to your MP’s, sign the petitions you see on Facebook, they do make a difference. Share the online educational videos with your friends on Instagram and Facebook. Discuss these topics down the pub, with your friends, write a blog, join Greenpeace and receive the information via the post. Educate yourselves.

The forests around the world hold the key to solving climate change — but they are now under threat more than ever. 80% of global deforestation is a result of agricultural production, which is also the leading cause of habitat destruction. Scientists warn that preventing climate breakdown and species extinction cannot be achieved without radical reform to the way we produce, trade and consume food.

TO STOP AND PROTECT THE AMAZON RAINFOREST — we must stop the key driver of deforestation in Brazil — the industrial meant industry. Greenpeace intends to accomplish this year 2022.

By harnessing the voices of celebrities, Indigenous leaders and influential allies like doctors and farmers to connect the dots between industrial meant climate change and rainforest destruction. Exposing the problems by revealing industrial meat supply chains and using this evidence to pressure the food sector in their output of meat sales.

Brazil and its indigenous people need us to stand in solidarity with them. These are the best defenders of the forests — whose very existence is threatened by the Brazilian government’s rolling back of forest and human rights protection and the encouragement of illegal logging.

Join Greenpeace now, every penny goes into saving your home, your children’s, and grandchildren's future. This is real, we need to act now.

Greenpeace is campaigning to persuade the UN to agree on a strong Global Ocean Treaty that would pave the way to protect 30% of the oceans by 2030. In March 2022, there’s the chance to make this a reality as nations come together at the UN in the final round of treaty negotiations
